I grew up in upstate New York and
lived for a couple of years on Staten Island and Manhattan.
New York is a wonderful city built on a spectacular island
near a spectacular River. Even with its exuberant social
life and abundant creativity—the mega structures it
has evolved seem strangely disconnected from the natural
systems that support it. Nevertheless, I still find the
place fascinating. I can still feel the bedrock underneath
and the mighty flow of the Hudson.
