East of the San Andreas fault, there is a rich smorgasbord of rock types, representing a complicated geological history. The result is a high diversity of soil types. Each type provides its own conditions of texture, structure, and nutrients. There is a greater variety of soils in Sonoma County than in all of France. (continued below)
